As a child, I was infatuated by the natural world, whether it be dreaming of dinosaurs, catching bugs or becoming bewitched by a book on butterflies, it took over my life and the interest was here to stay.
At the age of 13, I was given my first compact camera, developing my obsession with wildlife into an obsession of photographing wildlife and documenting the world around me. After encouragement from friends and family, I began to share images with a small online community of Flickr photographers, absorbing tips and advice to sharpen my skills. Once I learnt the basics, I then began to play around for myself and chose butterflies and moths as my subject matter. Macro photography soon became my preferred style and while enjoyable, simply documenting the life of animals didn't feel personal to me. I wanted to not only highlight their natural beauty and accentuate the hidden details but create bright, eye-catching images that reflected the joy I felt every time I clicked the shutter and so I decided to try out my own techniques to achieve the desired effect.
